Secondary School
This is a story of Christabel’s experience in a secondary school. Christabel has spent more than 10 years in lower education. She has overstayed in the lower school because of cerebral palsy. She was used to the environment of her primary school and she made many friends. For Christabel to move from the low to a high school was major shift in her life especially that she has to moved away from her parents and family about 360 km away from home. Christabel has moved from her comfort zone to a new environment and she has not managed to adjust in her academic work. For Christabel to succeed in the high school we have set new rules. Higher education requires a lot of self-discipline and hard work. Here is a comprehensive list of the things she needs: •Discipline •Keenness to learn •Time and patience •Hard work and effort •Enthusiasm •Flexibility She was given a chance to refelect on the reasons why she decided to go to high school. Her motives and her reasons are important pillars on which the whole structure of her education depends. We are constantly asking our child what she feels about higher education. She tells us that after completing school she will go to college and she wants to be a teacher. She wants to be a teacher, not just a teacher but a teacher for children with special needs. At this school, we felt our child would gain knowledge and life skills which would help her in future life. After one term at this school, Christabel withdrew from school and stayed at home. The school was found not to be suitable. However, the family has continued with home schooling. She returned to her old school 2011.
