Parents and Socialising
There are many aspects to parents and socialising and these include weddings, kitchen parties, church functions and visiting the sick and funerals. Often times we attend these functions as a couple except for kitchen parties which are exclusively for women. When we receive people in the home, social gatherings, give opportunities to others to meet, we help each other as adults to grow socially. In case of death in our immediate and extended family we are able to speak about it to one another, that is husband and wife and we are able to comfort one another. Eventual departure of a child from home to live elsewhere is an emotional moment. We experienced this in August, 2008, when our first born son was posted outside our town to live on his own. My wife and I had to comfort each other and reassured ourselves that with the good upbringing our son had, he would cope with the challenges of life on his own. So far he has managed to live well and he is in touch regularly and sometimes visits us.
