Medicine
You want to know something about medicine and cerebral palsy? When our child was born we expected her to grow normally but as time went by we realized that achieving the set milestones were taking too long. Our daughter was unable to sit on her without support even at 12 months. She was unable to utter first words for a very long time. When we took her to a medical consultant in pediatrics, the doctor advised that there was very little which could be done for our daughter. We were advised that the condition was not new and it affects many children in the world. The condition was not contagious and therefore it cannot be passed on from one child to another. Wee came to know that our daughter required long term caring. The main treatment was physiotherapy. Our daughter was not put on any treatment. We are happy to note that our daughter was not on any medication because some children with the similar condition were on long term medical treatment. However, it should be noted that the severity of the condition differs from child to child and there is no situation which could be termed as identical. Muscle relaxants and Botox are some of the medicine for treating cerebral palsy. Muscle relaxants could help muscles to relax. These relaxants sometimes have some reactions such as stomach upsets and drowsiness. Botox is used in other conditions and sometimes used to treat people with cerebral palsy because it could help to relax stiff muscles and spasms for people with cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy treatment may include physical therapy, surgical procedures and orthopedic procedures. The type of treatment could depend on how may problems the child could have or severity of the problem. For our daughter, we are only using the physical therapy. This involves exercise and physical training to help our daughter to develop independent living.
