Learning Disability

This is a story about how learning disability affects performance at school. This story is based on a school report for Christabel for the year 2008. Academically, Christabel did her best especially when encouraged and motivated. She enjoyed reading story books and any other text book that she was given.

She even helped those of her friends who were lagging behind. In mathematics, Christabel did well. She was able to change numerals from Arabic to roman numerals as well as wrote dates in roman numerals. She was able to retrieve information from text to do addition and subtraction. She was also able to use a table to do addition and subtraction.

In motor skills, Christabel was able to stabilize her involuntary movements so well. The teacher was impressed to see Christabel lift herself from one point to another that was from a wheel chair to a special chair and vice versa.

In fine motor skills, Christabel was able to hold a small pencil and wrote neatly especially when the teacher was near but when the teacher was not looking she scribbled. Generally, Christabel was a very friendly and approachable girl. She was smart and she did not like a dirty environment. Sometimes she is moody and these moods affect her performance.

Recommendations by the teacher.

• Encourage Christabel to work hard as she tends to withdraw when work is hard

• Encourage her to be consistent in coming to school as she is preparing for her examinations

• She should work extra hard in science as she was lagging behind.

The class teacher concluded the assessment by saying that it was good to note the help that Christabel was getting from home, she had her homework done with the parent’s signature showing that they had helped her. The teacher finally encouraged the parents to “Keep up the good spirit”
