Information on cerebral palsy
I have 10 basic pieces of Information on cerebral palsy for parents with children with cerebral palsy for a better life. I use these 10 principles in handling our daughter with disabilities and these principles are given below: 1. Homework Do your homework or investigations. New treatments are being discovered every day to help children with cerebral palsy. Use the internet to keep yourself abreast of new options that become available. 2. Hope, Faith and Trust Always have hope, faith and trust. Don’t let you or your child get discouraged. When new problems arise, try and deal with them head on. When dealing with Chrisatabel's disabilities, Hope, Faith and Trust is my creed or motto. 3. Let Your Child Know God Teach you child with disabilities about God. Let her/him know that God is love and that God loves us all, whether we have disabilities of not. Let her/him know that with God nothing is impossible. Let her/him participate in church activities. 4. Ask for Help Don’t be afraid, ashamed or shy to ask for help. Taking care of a child with a disability can be very challenging and sometimes draining. Reach out to family, friends, and neighbours for help and respite. 5. Learn to Adapt Help your child learn to adapt to her/his disability. Get creative, and help her/him to be as independent as he can. This will boost her/his self esteem, and make her/him try even harder.Help your child with her/his homework from school. Show keen interest in her/his work. 6. Don’t Push It’s important not to push your child. Let him go at her/his own pace, which will probably vary as she/he grows. It’s also important to let her/him know you support her/him. 7. Don’t Make Cerebral Palsy Your Life While research, doctor visits, therapy are all important, don’t let cerebral palsy define you or your child’s life. Have “normal” days where you just let her/him be a kid. 8. Have Some Fun Have some fun with your child. Do all the things you would do with a non-disabled child. It’s important that she/he has all the childhood experiences that he can. 9. Set Goals Though you shouldn’t push your child, it is important to set goals. When she/he is old enough, sit down with her/him and set some very reachable goals. 10. Evaluation and celebration Periodically, evaluate the progress of your child against the set targets. You can set the period of the evaluation according to your needs. It can be monthly, quarterly, bi-annually or annually. Then be sure to celebrate every achievement with her/him. So these are my 10 principles on handling disabilities and these principles provide basic information on cerebral palsy.
