Home Schooling Benefits
There are several home schooling benefits. Why let my daughter with cerebral palsy learn at home than send her to school? Well, first of all, I do not want her to work up every early in the morning and take her to school and then pick her up later. Home schooling makes me feel I am in charge of her schooling and other things which affect the life of my daughter. However, this may be misplaced because out there, there some advantages of being at school, life socialising and integrating into the community. At home, I could be over protecting my daughter and therefore detaching her from the real world which can be detrimental to her normal growth and development. Home schooling has the advantages of flexibility. You find that the pressure which is association with strict timetable at school is removed. The curriculum can be tailored to the needs of the student. The other benefit of home schooling is removal of competition with her peers in class. This means that she will only compete with herself. You can even focus on the issues she is interested in, rather than subjecting her to the whole school curriculum. Some of the subjects in the school curriculum can be boring to her and not appropriate for her.You can also include religious knowledge in your private curriculum so you can be in charge of shaping the moral and religious life of your child. However, you may find that sheltering your child from the outside world may have its own disadvantages. When you remove competition from your daughter, you are depriving her the chance to grow and develop in a normal way. All said and done, after looking at the pros and cons of home schooling, we decided as a family to place our daughter in a public school. However, this does not mean we have abandoned homeschooling. We still do some schooling at home.
