Disability Services

One of the disability services which can be used to alleviate the problem is Brain Gym. This is good for anyone who is involved with learning and teaching, especially those teaching children with learning disabilities. Hanna Kok is One of the Facilitators and she is the director of 'Make a Life' used Brain Gym exercises in a local school in Lesotho and the marks of the students improved drastically, by doing the exercises 5 minutes a day. The teachers couldn't believe the great improvement.

Facilitators conduct many different practical Brain Gym courses. The basic course is the Brain Gym 101. However, before the Brain Gym course is carried out a prerequisite course called Neuro Integrated Movements (NIM) should be taken. The NIM course is for two days while the Brain Gym is for three days. The courses are conducted by qualified Facilitators. Neuro Integrated Movements

Facilitators offer a 2-day introduction course where you learn the 26 basic Brain Gym movements. You also will learn the basic physiology to understand how these simple exercises optimise our brain functioning. The workshop is an active experience with a lot of fun. You will need to wear comfortable clothes to be able to move freely.

If you want more, then do a follow up 3-day Brain Gym course, where you learn to apply these movements and others, to let go of ineffective and/or sabotaging behaviour and replace it with a new and effective ones. Facilitators use these techniques and more in the Personal Coaching consultations

Brain Gym 101

Brain Gym is a set of simple yet very effective exercises that stimulates and integrates the whole brain. The result is an increase in our Intelligence Quotient, Emotional Intelligence and our overall brain capacity. Brain Gym is part of Educational Kinesiology (Edu-K). This means that we re-educate the brain through movement. Thousands of children, who were diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and other problems, have been helped by doing Brain Gym a few minutes each day.

It is not only for children, adults have benefited from these disability services too. They reduce stress, increase focus and concentration, to name just a few of the benefits. They are also excellent for increasing our capabilities in sport and to improve our communication skills.

Even after more than 10 years of working with Brain Gym Hanna Kok is still amazed at how these simple movements are so effective. Within 20 seconds, we can increase our motivation, lower our stress levels or increase our reading abilities. We get these results through movement, because it is the natural way of learning. It is so simple and yet so very effective!!! Certification

Facilitators are affiliated with the Training Centre Edu-K of South Africa. There are several Facilitators in South Africa, who offer the international Edu-K learning track. This means that you will receive internationally recognised certificates for any Brain Gym course that you do with a Facilitator

What makes the Brain Gym Workshops Unique?

Facilitators use Educational Kinesiology (Edu-K) in all the coaching sessions and workshops. It means that during our sessions, Faciltators draw out learning. They identity self-sabotaging patterns and replace them with appropriate new behaviour. This brings a person back into a natural balance, integrating body, mind and spirit, allowing the person to operate from a space of love and growth.

Learners do not only learn on a conscious level, but also on a subconscious level as well. This is very important, because if their subconscious beliefs are in conflict with what they just learnt, they will sabotage all their own good intentions. Within a short period of time, the learners will revert back to their old ways.

Working with a Personal Coach (Facilitator) is very powerful and effective. Working with a Personal Coach brings about permanent changes, even on deep-seated issues.

First the Facilitator will identify the root of the person's challenges. Then he/she will use simple, but highly effective techniques to integrate and activate whole-brain thinking, which enables the individual to deal with their challenges effectively.Target Groups

The target group for these disability services is any organisation or person between the ages of 0 - 120 years, who has an interest in, or has a need for the development of themselves or others.

Examples of the different fields where 'Make a Life' successfully worked in are:• Schools- Teachers. • People in the medical profession.• Children with learning difficulties • From large corporate to small organisations• Individuals from all walks of life. • Sport. • Townships. Brain Gym History

Paul Dennison, Ph.D., Director of the Educational Kinesiology Foundation, developed the Brain Gym programme over a period of 25 years as an educational specialist. He has been an educator for all of his professional life. His work is based on an understanding of the interdependence of physical movement, language acquisition and academic achievements. This education system developed out his back ground in psychology.

Dr. Dennison served as director of the Valley Remedial Group Learning Centres for 19 years, helping children and adults turn their learning difficulties into successful growth.

Using movement to build new learning experiences, has been researched by Newell Kephart, Ray Barsch, Drs. Doman and Delcato, Jean Ayers and others. This research is the basis of the Brain Gym movements. © Hannak Kok.
