Disability Resource Centre

A disability resource centre is a place were persons with impairments can be helped in terms of disability education, disability training and many other interventions which can help them to achieve a higher level of personal sufficiency. This type of centre is not readily available in Zambia. Disability resources are scanty. Persons with disabilities in Zambia have been affected by the poor economic situation in the country and they are not accorded much priority in the national planning and development. Vocational skills training for persons with impairment are very few. Unemployment is high, thereby compounding the problems for both parents and persons with impairment. There are two types of needs:

Needs of Children

• Most children with disabilities have inadequate quality care when parents are busy with work in either formal or informal employment• After vocational training, employment is very difficult to find.• Vocational Training centers for persons with disabilities are very few in the country.

Needs of Parents

• Most parents have difficulties to find one to care for the children with disabilities while they attend to their work or other matters.• Many parents often want some rest to enable them to manage stress

I would like to establish a Centre for persons with disabilities.and the goal will be:

• To improve the quality of care services for children with disabilities

Objectives

• To provide respite care services for children with disabilities• To develop and establish a vocational training centre for children with disabilities Description of the Project
