Disability Help

Disability help can be very difficult especially for Cerebral Palsy because there is no cure. From my experience you can only treat the condition. Treatment is based on the person’s symptoms and the need to prevent complications. The goal of treatment is to help the person be as independent a possible.

We recommend that treatment should be a team approach, including a specialist doctor, a social worker, nurses, therapists and other specialists. The therapists may include occupational, physical and speech therapists depending on the need.

Our recommendations for home care, include, getting enough food and a balance diet. They issue of nutrition is very important, the person with impairment should take enough proteins, vegetables and a lot of fruits.

This person should be carrying out exercises regularly with the help of the family members. Some family members should be trained by the physiotherapists on certain basic exercises which could be done at home. The home should be kept safe for the person and he or she should have access to a number of rooms such as bathroom/toilet, sitting room and bedroom without any obstacles.

For our daughter we have some special walking aids, a wheel chair, a standing frame,a special chair and a trampoline. These equipment are essential for Christabel. The type of equipment for an individual is based on the person’s symptoms and the need for mobility.

Christabel most of the times she is unable to use the trampoline because of her condition. She is often discriminated against by her peers when they want to use the trampoline.
