Disability and Physical Growth

This article is about disability and physical growth. Every child, including a child with disabilities needs to develop in many different ways, however these articles will focus on five main areas. These five different areas of development are:

• Physical growth• Affection• Intellectual• Social• Spiritual

As a family, we have realised that children are beautiful gifts from god regardless of their disabilities and as such they need to grow. As a family we have nurtured the physical growth of our 19 year old daughter with disabilities just like any other child in the family. For any child to physically grow he/she needs the six types of food mixed in the right proportions to make a balanced diet. For Christabel, we ensured that she attended the under five clinic to help us in monitoring her growth. Her physical growth was normal and we were very happy with her progression.

We also ensured that she had medical care and cleanliness. Christabel is able to wash her own clothe, bathe and dress herself. As a teenager, she personally asks for items such as powder, roll on, perfume and lotion. She is also very particular at the way her hair looks. Overall, she likes any teenage girl, and wants to look nice and clean.

Physical growth is also applicable to the parents. We realised that as parents there are ways of giving and sharing life.
