Cerebral Palsy Prevention

Cerebral Palsy Prevention is possible with modernisation but is a big challenge. Modernisation has brought about good modern techniques, equipment and machinery to detect medical problems. Computerised machinery and equipment are a wonder in modern medicine . This is coupled by very high and sophicated skills by medical personnel and new medicines.

Before dwelling on the prevention, it is important to discuss the causes of cerebral palsy. One of the causes of cerebral palsy is lack of oxygen to the brain of the baby during pregnancy or at birth. This causes some damage to the brain and will result in faults to the motor development. This subsequently leads too poor coordination of the body and leads to some disabilities.

In the case of our daughter, the cerebral palsy has affected the whole body and she is unable to walk. She uses a wheel chair for her outdoor mobility and uses her kneels in moving around the home.

The condition is not curable and women who want to have children should be warned about the risks of cerebral palsy. So one of the methods of prevention is regular medical check up during pregnancy.

Although you may take precautions to prevent cerebral palsy, you cannot prevent it one hundred percent. This is because you cannot control certain conditions. Sometimes, it may be very difficult to control delivery of a baby before full term and yet this is one of the most important risk factors. Premature delivery of a baby can lead to cerebral palsy.

Another factor is under weight of a baby at birth. Underweight at birth is very risk and the baby may be vulnerable to cerebral palsy. So the best is to pray to God that all goes well and matched by good and proper medical attention
