Cerebral Palsy communication
Cerebral palsy Communication is important because self-advocacy for persons with cerebral palsy has been slow in developing. I have volunteered to be cerebral palsy activist so that we increase the public awareness of this condition and to integrate persons with CP into every day activities. It is common knowledge that human rights insists on the equality of persons with cerebral palsy. However, there is still some way to go before the dignity of the persons with cerebral palsy is fully recognized. As the old adage goes, “charity begins at home” it is within the family that the parents should accept full responsibility for the child with cerebral palsy. Once you overcome the problem of stereotyping at family level, then you go out to the neighbourhood and the community at large The aim of this communication is to prepare both the persons with cerebral palsy and care givers and indeed community at large to communicate. I believe that in order to live a full life for a person with CP, there is a need to communicate, that is to give and to receive, to share what we are, to help one another to grow. Thus the emphasis is in the integration of the persons with cerebral palsy into every day activities. This communication is aimed at helping understand the cerebral palsy as a condition and how persons with cerebral palsy can be integrated into daily activities. Cerebral palsy communication will cover the following: • Cerebral palsy centre. • Cerebral palsy videos. The Centre will house a library and it will be a source of information on cerebral palsy and other disabilities. Essentially, the centre will provide general coping strategies of disabilities, especially to mothers with infants with disabilities. The centre will also provide video, audios, films, posters and pictures on cerebral palsy and other disabilities. This kind of dissemination of information will help to increase awareness of disabilities and how to copy with the disabilities.
