Cerebral Palsy and Aging

Cerebral palsy and aging is an interesting subject, especially when it relates to life expectancy. The issue of cerebral palsy and aging is important because there is life without disability and life with disability. A child with cerebral palsy when properly managed can have a normal life expectancy and can reach 70 years of age and above.

Regardless of the condition (disabled or not) every human being is differently abled and uniquely created and each is created in the image and likeness of God. Mankind has been endowed by God’s creative ingredients which make him complete human – with dignity and humanity to himself and before others.

However, some children may be born with deformities or deformities may develop in early childhood or even much later. Children with disabilities or people with disabilities are human beings too and therefore, it is the responsibility of every family member to safeguard God’s creation avoiding any discrimination against a child with disabilities or any other destructive measures. Parents have the foremost duty in nurturing their children toward discerning what good habit is and what bad habit is and the family should embrace or integrate children with disabilities in the family.

Even a child with cerebral palsy has life and should be protected by the family. A child with cerebral palsy should enjoy life just like everyone else and can grow up to the ripe age of about 70 years old and above. The life expectancy of a child with cerebral palsy may be similar to other people.
