Cerebral palsy activities

Cerebral palsy activities in this instance refers to daily chores of an individual. Personal care such as bathing and dressing may be challenging for a person with cerebral palsy because it involves using the arms which are not stable and poor grasping of items in the hands.

A child with cerebral palsy the arms may not function properly and only close relatives may know about this condition. This impairment the family will know about it but other people may not know, especially at school and other public places. The school authorities should be sensitized about these limitations, otherwise, they may think the child with cerebral palsy is just lazy.

In one of the school progress reports for our daughter, a teacher wrote that our daughter was lazy. As parents we took up the matter with the teacher and explained to him about the condition of our daughter and the teacher apologized and he adapted to the condition.

It should be noted that certain activities will be beyond a child with cerebral palsy, if the sensory damage is severe. The child may have problems with buttoning up a blouse or shirt. The finger dexterity of our daughter is quite poor so she struggles to manipulate small objects, sometimes she is assisted by her younger sister or the mother.

However, certain things we allow her to do them herself no matter how long it takes. For instance, putting on shoes, we do not interfere we allow her to do it on her own and in her own time. A visitor would want to help because the visitor thinks we are troubling our daughter, but the point is we want our daughter to go towards independent living. So we will take some time to explain to the visitor the importance of self care for our dear daughter with cerebral palsy.

Physical therapy or exercises is essential for a child with cerebral palsy at least for the condition of my daughter. The exercises are good for her body and the exercise helps her in the balancing of the body and coordination when doing certain activities.
