Causes of cerebral palsy

There are many causes of cerebral palsy and some of them are given below:

1. Pregnancy

There are a number of things that can happen during pregnancy that can cause your baby to have cerebral palsy. During pregnancy some complications can occur which led to giving birth earlier than the normal period and low weight in relation to the normal birth weight and other complications.

2. Lack of Oxygen

Lack of oxygen at birth is a common cause of cerebral palsy in children. An adult could also develop cerebral palsy if he for some reason is deprived of oxygen.

3. Trauma

Any trauma in a child or an adult can cause cerebral palsy. These can include:

• Car accident

• Head Injury

• Stroke

4. Infection

Brain infection can cause cerebral palsy. These infections include:

• Meningitis

• Viral encephalitis

Your child may be diagnosed with cerebral palsy or other problems. Sometimes the doctors may pronounce that the damage to the brain is very severe and there is nothing they can do. They may even tell you that your child will be a like a “vegetable”. However, do not despair and lose hope because the medical examinations out come are not final. It is not the end of the world, as parents you have to be bold and take the challenge to manage the child. You have to put your child in the hands of God and be prayerful on the condition of your child.

Start managing your child according to your desires. Your desires are that your child will be better so look for the positive actions your child will be making, no matter how small and continue improving on hi s or her condition. You will realise that the child is improving and you are managing to live with the child with disabilities.
