Ataxic cerebral palsy is a condition which is characterised by poor coordination of movements and poor balance. Children with this condition look very unsteady and shaky. Walking becomes a challenge and person walks with a poor sense of balance. Ataxic CP generally affects coordination of movement in an individual’s arms, legs and trunk. It also causes poor muscle tone. Ataxic cerebral palsy is rare and it identified by poor balance of the person suffering from the condition. A person with this condition walks with difficult. The person with this condition usually shakes and is unable to hold or pick items because of the shaking. In case the person with this condition is able to pick an item, it will be done with great difficult and it will take time to do a simple task. My daughter has this condition but I cannot determine the severity of the situation. She has some challenges to picking up things. The right hand is better than the left hand, so she uses the right hand much more than the left hand. Some task are even more challenging because she is unable to tie shoe laces on her own. This task she has to be assisted. Even combing of the hair she requires some assistance. I am happy to note that she is able to brush her teeth on her own although she takes quite a lot of time. My daughter's favourite pastime is watching television. She is able to change channel own her with a remote control. People with ataxic CP will walk with difficult because of their poor sense of balance. They appear to be unsteady because of the low muscle tone.
